Caperton Tissot

In my working life of over forty years, I have explored a number of occupations, always hoping to help make this world, in some little way, a better place in which to live. Some of the work was rewarding because it succeeded, to one degree or another, in fulfilling its mission. More often it was not, as noble organizational goals fell victim to the desires of a few to enrich and empower themselves at the expense of many.

My first job was as assistant photographer at Mystic Seaport in Connecticut. This was followed by a succession of occupations: everything from fundraising for environmental causes to the back and heartbreaking work of nursing: from recruiting physicians to enrolling uninsured children in a state-sponsored health plan. For over twelve years, I owned a business in which I designed, created and sold handmade pottery nationwide.

Now, somewhat disillusioned but far more tolerant, I relish the freedom of retirement. Living in a wilderness area, the Adirondacks, my husband and I enjoy easy access to paddling, hiking, biking, skiing and studying the flora and fauna. We have a fine son and daughter and enjoy their spouses and four children.

A closet writer for many years, I have happily emerged to share reflections and adventures experienced along life’s bumpy road on this ever-twirling planet. I feel my pottery and writing are the contributions that have come closest to fulfilling my goals.
